Vintage: 83-year-old Maine fire truck still going strong, US
A piece of history: The Town of Hiram bought its first fire truck and built its fire department in 1937 at a cost of $6 000. The truck was bought for $3 400 and the department still has the truck’s original bill of sale. The town’s first fire truck ran calls until 1983. The vintage truck still runs and can pump water. In 1947, the truck was used for a wildfire that destroyed a quarter of a million acres and wiped out entire towns. The fire department has worked with Firefly Restorations for touchups and tuning up the mechanics.
