Fire breaks out at factory Wadeville, Ekurhuleni; fire fighter injured
A fire broke out at a factory in Wadeville in Ekurhuleni on Friday, 16 June 2023. Station commander Bafana Webbs Maselela and William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) reported, “Axiom Hydraulics based in Stellenberg and Bergvlei roads had a working fire on arrival of fire fighters from Wadeville Fire Station.”
They continued, “Heavy thick carbon smoke was emitting from one of the factory`s structures. Defensively, attack lines were laid-out while scene assessment was conducted. Crews had to establish water supply from the nearby fire hydrant for sustainable supply. Backup from Germiston was also activated due to the high risk involved. A total of 17 fire fighters inclusive of managers were in attendance. A water tanker and major pumper from Wadeville and a major pumper from Germiston Fire Station responded to the incident.”
“Primary response engines rolled-out of the station at 10h53 and arrived on scene at 11h10. Operation lasted until at 17Hh20 when the scene was declared over and all resources arrived back to their respective stations.”
“During operation, one fire fighter sustained injuries and had to be taken in for medical check-up.”
