Fire stations of the world: Worcester Fire Station, Worcestershire, UK

Worcester Fire Station is located at McKenzie Way in the Rainbow Hill area of Worcester just outside the City Centre in in Great Western Business Park, Worcestershire, UK and opened in May 2015. The fire station covers a large area of around 86 square miles, which houses 127 100 residents2 living in 57 400 homes. Worcester Fire Station is a wholetime and on-call fire station that is home to three Scania fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, water rescue sprinter, emergency rescue boat, workboat and swift water rescue team.
The Worcester Fire Station is a three storey, five appliance bay fire station comprising equipment storage areas, offices, meeting rooms, training facilities, changing rooms, canteen, sleeping accommodation and gymnasium.
The station has three duty systems that work out of the station: wholetime shift, who provide cover 24/7; wholetime day duty, who provide cover from 07h00 to 19h00 every day and the on-call duty system, whose fire fighters crew one appliance in the day and two appliances at night and respond to emergency calls whenever they are needed.
The station has three Scania fire engines, two pumps and one heavy rescue pump, one of which will shortly be replaced by a new-style compact fire engine, as well as an aerial ladder platform and a water rescue vehicle. These vehicles, along with highly trained staff, allow the crews to deal with a range of fire or rescue related incidents in both the Worcester area and across the wider service.
There is also a training rig based at Worcester Fire Station, which allows for advanced training exercises that further prepare the crews for the many different types of fires and rescues they face on a regular basis. The building also has provision for the Young Firefighters Association and has multi-use lecture facilities.
The Station area is the busiest in the two counties with 1 476 incidents in 2020/21, approximately 17 percent of the Service’s total activity. The station also receives and provides operational support to and from neighbouring fire stations as well as to locations further afield if needed.
