Two dead, N12 closed after three trucks, seven cars collide in Ekurhuleni

Two drivers were declared dead on scene after three trucks and seven light motor vehicles crashed on the N12 West near the Edenvale exit, resulting in the full closure of the highway in Ekurhuleni. William Ntladi, district manager media liaison at Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) said firefighters received the call around 12h20 on Monday, 20 May 2024 and swiftly responded to the scene. On arrival, the entire freeway had to be temporarily closed due to crashed vehicles and trucks jack-knifed and spillage of chemicals on the road surface.
Ntladi, said two articulated trucks, a fixed bar truck and seven light motor vehicles were involved in the crash.
Two males, one truck driver and one SUV motor vehicle, were declared dead on scene by paramedics. Extrication tools had to be used to extricate the truck driver.
Seven other occupants from all vehicles were medically treated before transportation to various hospitals around the city of Ekurhuleni.
