Two die in light aircraft crash in Centurion, Pretoria
A Micro Aviation Bat Hawk crashed under unknown circumstances, killing both occupants on Sunday, 26 November 2023.
According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle Van Reenen, medics responded to the accident just after 08h00 on Sunday morning. “Emer-G-Med paramedics together with multiple emergency service agencies responded to the Sunderland Ridge area in Centurion for a light aircraft crash,” said Van Reenen, adding, “On arrival on scene, an aircraft was found to have crashed in a field.”
Both occupants were declared dead on arrival of the medics.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority’s Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID) said that it had deployed a team to the site of an accident involving a Bat Hawk aircraft that occurred in Grasslands in Centurion on Sunday, 26 November 2023. “A pilot and a passenger were on board the aircraft when the accident occurred,” the AIID said in a statement, adding “Both of them were fatally injured during the accident sequence and the aircraft was substantially damaged.”
The SACAA said the AIID team was dispatched to the accident site to collect evidence. The evidence will define the size and scope of the investigation once more information becomes available. In a statement, the SACAA said, “A preliminary report will be issued in 30 days from the day of this accident.”
