Training: Water rescue: line messengers
This video will review line messengers specifically used for swift water rescue operations. When setting up a high line, boat tether, rope retrieval or tension diagonal system it may be necessary to use a line messenger in order to reach an opposing shoreline on the other side of a river or waterway. A line messenger allows a smaller diameter and lighter weight rope to be deployed over a greater distance so that a larger and stronger rope (or ropes) can be deployed for the main rigging lines. One problem that departments or swift water teams can encounter is trying to afford the price of these devices. Commercially made pneumatic/air powered systems can cost well over $2 000. To help with this dilemma this video will focus on more simple systems which can be "home-made" and in turn much less expensive but still provide effective deployment distances.
