Two trucks collided on the and burst into flames on NI highway in Pretoria
According to Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso, one person was injured after two trucks, one of which reportedly carried hazardous materials, collided and burst into flames on the N1 South highway in Pretoria on Monday morning, 17 April 2023. The N1 highway was closed including all close by on and off ramps. Traffic was heavily backed up as clean-up operations commenced. Mabaso said the accident happened on the N1 South just after the N4 Proefplaas interchange in the early hours of Monday morning.
Mabaso added, “One truck collided with the back of the other truck. Upon arrival on the scene, both trucks were on fire. The one was fully engulfed by the flames, and the truck in the front only had parts of its trailer on fire.”
He furthermore said fire fighters managed to extinguish the fire on both vehicles.
“A hazardous material company contracted to SANRAL was then dispatched to monitor the situation and commence with the cleaning and containment of the hazardous material. One person was treated on the scene and transported to Steve Biko Academic Hospital.”
