Training: Achieving a ZERO "mask up" time
Make sure your volume is up: Dale G Pekel first produced a video on techniques for how to improve your mask up times nearly seven years ago. “That video today has over 350 000 views and is one of my top ten YouTube videos for ratings and popularity. Now in the last two years I've noticed a lot more attention on ‘social media’ being given toward mastering the skill of "masking up". Many firefighters have their own methods and whatever they may be it's important to satisfy 4 KEY elements (regardless of the skill we practice for that matter). Those elements include: speed, efficiency, effectiveness and relative safety; safety being covering ALL the bases and performing the skill (what I like to refer to as) "CLEANLY", meaning having NO errors that could comprise your well-being or prevent you from accomplishing your goal or objective (fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, etc). This short video highlights those four elements and is a tribute to a fallen Brother, Kyle Wilson, who died in the Line of Duty on 16 April 2007, a little over one year after he joined the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue on 23 January 2006.”
