Iconic Pure and Cool Roadhouse goes up in flames, Ekurhuleni
William Ntladi, district manager media liaison: Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), said, “At 16h14, Wednesday afternoon, 24 April 2024; district four firefighters received and responded out to a structural fire call of a Roadhouse reported to be well alight at 36 Stanhope Street Malvern East suburb of Bedfordview in Ekurhuleni.”
He added, “Bedfordview firefighters as primary responders, turned-out with four crews, backup was from Edenvale and Germiston fire stations respectively. City of Johannesburg firefighters also arrived from Berea and Kibler Park fire stations respectively. A total of 20 firefighters were in attendance inclusive of private fire departments. Five major pumpers and two grass unit pumpers were used on scene.”
“Bedfordview, the primary responding crew arrived around 16h40 followed by Germiston and Edenvale. The rest others arrived while the operation was rolling out. On arrival the structure was well engulfed by ragging flames threatening other structures nearby. As most of the burning fuel was class A material, water was used as an extinguishing agent. Sustainable supply was from other fire engines and from a nearby fire hydrant. Offensively, flames were attacked and brought to their knees “extinguished”. By 18h00, the scene was declared safe and done as crews returned to their respective stations”, said Ntladi.
“No casualties were recorded on scene due to the fire. Structural damage was immense whereby the entire building cannot be used for any purpose build for. The building is still a high-risk hazard to any life inhabitant.”
