Firefighters at Ga-Rankuwa Fire Station robbed at gun point, Pretoria

Six unknown gunmen broke into a City of Tshwane Emergency Service Fire Station in Ga-Rankuwa just after 01h00am on Friday, 3 November 2023 and robbed firefighters of their cellular phones. The gunmen entered the fire station by braking through a slab of a concrete perimeter wall at the back of the fire station. Upon entering the station, the gunmen cornered six firefighters in their rest area and ordered them to keep silent at gunpoint.
They then went on to demand their cellular phones and tried breaking into another office where a female station officer/company commander was resting but could not gain entry.
Security officers only noticed the break in when the gunmen were already inside the station and holding the firefighters at gunpoint. On leaving the station, the gunmen fired a shot that did not hit anyone. The security officers also fired at the gunmen when they were running away from the station after the robbery but could not hit any of the robbers. One of the robbers dropped a backpack that he had robbed one of the firefighters.
In a similar incident on 23 September 2022, three gunmen broke into the station and robbed firefighters and security officers of their cellular phones and wallets.
“We condemn the barbaric act by those who do not have consideration for the men and women in uniform who dedicate their lives to the protection and safety of lives and properties of our society. We also make a plea to law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to book to face the full might of the law”, said Deputy chief Charles Mabaso, public information and liaison officer for the City of Tshwane Emergency Services.
No one was harmed during the robbery. The officers involved are receiving psychosocial and spiritual support. A case of business robbery was registered at the Ga-Rankuwa Police Station.
