13 killed in horror crash between truck and taxi transporting teachers, Limpopo

There were no survivors in the horror crash that occurred between a Toyota Minibus and a Hyundai flatbed truck in Limpopo on Tuesday morning, 28 May 2024. Vongani Chauke, the spokesperson for Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Florence Radzilani, said the crash happened at around 05h30 when the flatbed truck collided with the minibus taxi on the R521, Dendron Road, in Ga-Hlahla in the Polokwane Local Municipality.
The Limpopo Department of Education said the teachers were stationed in the Capricorn North Education District. It is believed that the teachers were on their way to school.
Chauke said the cause of the accident was "reckless driving" on the part of the truck driver, who was reportedly on the wrong side of the road. "It's possible at that time in the morning that there was mist on the road," he said.
Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani visited the accident scene. She engaged with the bereaved families, who had come to the scene, and she relayed messages of condolences on behalf of the Provincial Government.
