Four women killed as car 'swept under truck' on N3 near Mariannhill, KwaZulu-Natal
Four women were killed in a nine-vehicle collision on the N3 eastbound near the Mariannhill toll plaza in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday, 1 November 2022. Reporting on the incident, Medi Response Search and Rescue spokesperson, Paul Herbst, said the multi-vehicle collision involved six vehicles and two trucks. He added that their search-and-rescue division was on the scene, which involved six vehicles and two trucks. “One light motor vehicle was swept beneath a truck and severely damaged, killing all four occupants. Multiple patients are being treated and extrication of the deceased is ongoing.”
Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said, “There are still more than 10 patients who are still being treated on scene”. He added that the four who died are still stuck in the vehicle and emergency services are still trying to move the vehicle from beneath the truck. Herbst said the circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities. Road Traffic Inspectorate, National Traffic Police, SAPS Accident Unit, SAPS Marianhill, Government EMS, eThekwini Fire and Rescue and Durban Metropolitan Police Services were on scene.
