Flames engulf historic Newcastle building, KwaZulu-Natal

​A fierce fire on the evening of Wednesday, 26 April 2023, engulfed an historic building on Harding Street that was previously the Masonic Lodge in new Castle, KwaZulu-Natal. When the building was vacated by the Masons, it was used by a church before it was left abandoned. All emergency services were at the scene extinguishing the fire. It’s believed that vagrants occupy the building, which could have possibly led to the fire. The exact cause of the fire is however not known at this stage and will be subjected to further investigation.
