Aircraft crashes through roof of Oregon house; two dead, one hurt, US

An aircraft crashed through the roof of an Oregon home Tuesday, killing two people and injuring a third. Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue said 911 calls began coming in around 19h00 reporting witnesses saw a small plane spiralling out of control before crashing in Newberg, southwest of Portland, Oregon in the US.
Firefighters found the plane crashed into the house. Part of the aircraft was found inside the home, with the rest of it in the backyard, it said. The plane carried three people, two of whom were killed. The third was injured. The house was occupied at the time of the crash but none of the occupants were hurt.
Initially, firefighters found two occupants in the plane, one of whom was pronounced dead at the scene. The second occupant was flown by helicopter to a Portland trauma hospital with serious injuries.
After crews were able to "gain additional access" to more of the aircraft, they found a third occupant, who had died.
Michele Cavallotti, 22 and Barrett Bevacqua, 20, died in the crash, Newberg-Dundee police said Wednesday. Cavallotti was an instructor with the Hillsboro Aero Academy and Bevacqua was a student pilot. They were both from Hillsboro, Oregon, police said.
Initially, firefighters did not believe anyone was inside the home when the plane crashed, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue said. Firefighters had searched it multiple times and confirmed there were no occupants, it said.
However, later interviews with the homeowners revealed that multiple people had been inside at the time but that all evacuated safely, the fire and rescue service said.
The Red Cross provided assistance to the family, who authorities said have been displaced from their home.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
