Ukrainian fire fighters take part in Birmingham rescue festival
More than 400 fire fighters competed at the UKRO Festival of Rescue 2022, representing nearly 40 fire and rescue services from across the UK, as well as a guest team from Ukraine. The two-day Birmingham event was hosted on behalf of the UK Rescue Organisation by West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS). The team of fire fighters from Ukraine arrived in the country earlier in the week as part of an international development programme, West Midlands Fire Service said.
The West Midlands' chief fire officer Phil Loach said it has been a "hugely important" year for the region following the pandemic and then hosting the Commonwealth Games. "The Games were a time to celebrate and to come together and I'm delighted we're able to follow this up with our own 'Games' and to shine a spotlight once again on our amazing region," he added. Chief Fire Officer Loach said, "It has been a pleasure and a privilege to host the festival and to showcase the best of Birmingham and the West Midlands. Many congratulations to all of the winners. While the festival is a competition, it’s also a rare and valuable opportunity for colleagues to learn from each other in such an environment and to be able to watch and ask questions and make valuable connections. It enhances the services we all provide to our communities." Other tests for the teams include finding the country's "fittest fire fighter". The full list of winners is available on the Official UKRO website. Source: UKRO Festival of Rescue 2022, BBC |
