Wildfire 2024 Conference Scotland
The UK Wildfire Conference will be held at the P&J Live, Aberdeen, Scotland on 12 and 13 November 2024. This is being hosted by the Scottish Wildfire Forum and organised by The Heather Trust.
The two-day conference will focus on the theme of ‘Resilience in a changing world’. It will bring together land managers, fire and rescue services, academic researchers, environmental organisations, planners and policy-makers involved in the prevention, mitigation and suppression of wildfires and focusing on their human impacts. The event will showcase emerging themes that have been informed by the best knowledge and experience from the UK and internationally. Day 1 will have a global focus, whilst Day 2 will look more closely at the UK picture.
Some of the keynote speakers headlining Wildfire 2024
Marc Castellnou, Catalan Fire Service, Spain: Marc provides an expert perspective on how the risk of wildfire is changing and in particular what we might expect to see in terms of fire behaviour in the North West of Europe.
Val Charlton, Landworks, South Africa: Born in Scotland, Val Charlton has lived in Cape Town, South Africa for most of her life and loves the outdoors. Val promotes integrated fire management practice to address landscape fire risks and hazards.
Dewi Rose, South Wales Fire and Rescue, UK: In his capacity as chair of the England and Wales Wildfire Forum, Dewi champions a joined-up approach to ensuring that the UK is resilient to threats of wildfire. Dewi is also deputy chief fire officer and director of Service Delivery at SWFRS; responsible for risk reduction and fire control, as well as general operations.
Tiago Oliveira, AGIF, Portugal: Tiago Oliveira is a PhD and forest engineer with 30 years of experience in national and international activities, specialising in wildland fire risk management and governance. Appointed by the Prime-Minister in the aftermath of the 2017 wildfire season, he led the creation of the Integrated Rural Fire Management System in Portugal.
Jim Savege, Aberdeenshire Council, Scotland: Jim is Cchair of the Scottish Resilience Partnership and a past chair of Solace Scotland, continuing to work across public services locally and nationally to ensure the most effective team approach. He is passionate about working with communities to help people achieve their dreams and live their best lives.
