FireDos fire protection foam dosing system on offer from DoseTech
Fire protection equipment supplier DoseTech offers its FireDos fire protection foam dosing technology, known as proportioners, to the South African fire prevention and fire fighting market. The company explains that foam is the only way to effectively fight certain fire scenarios. To generate such foam, a foam agent must be precisely admixed to the extinguishing water flow first, after which air is added as a third component, expanding the ‘premix‘ to a fire fighting foam at the point of discharge. DoseTech is a specialist supplier of foam systems and provides hands-on knowledge and experience to its customers. DoseTech has been involved in the supply of FireDos proportioners for the past 23 years. FireDos contributes to the effectiveness of stationary and mobile fire extinguishing systems through powerful and innovative technology. The working principle of a proportioner consists of a proportioning pump and a water motor.
When the extinguishing water pump is operated, the water flows through the water motor of the proportioner, prompting it to rotate, enabling the water motor to drive the proportioning pump. The water flow rate through the water motor is controlled by the valves to the sprinklers or the fire monitor, and the volumetric flow meter shows the current water flow rate passing through the water motor. Proportioning rate testing A ball valve can be used to switch between actual injection of the foam agent into the extinguishing water and returning it into an unpressurised foam agent tank. This is how to test the proportioning rate, while producing no foam or premix. The purely mechanical functioning principle is also highly reliable and provides maximum safety, making the FireDos proportioners easy to operate. The company stresses that the client must keep in mind that the exact foam agent flow rate is vital for successful fire fighting when foam is used. “This is why the proportioning rate of a foam proportioner should be tested at least once a year,” the company suggests. With a FireDos proportioner, fire fighting is easy and, compared with other technologies, is cost-saving and eco-friendly. The minimum extinguishing water flow rate from that a proportioner can achieve its actual nominal proportioning rate is called the start-up flow rate. A proportioning rate of 1% means that one litre of premix consists of 10ml foam agent and 990ml water. FireDos proportioners allow testing of the proportioning rate while no premix or extinguishing foam is produced. A ball valve is used to switch between actual foam agent proportioning into the extinguishing water and returning the foam agent into the foam agent tank at atmospheric pressure. The foam agent flow rate is measured by a volumetric flow meter to determine the extinguishing water flow rate. As an alternative, the foam agent flow rate can be measured by means of a measurement container in the return line. The ratio of returned/contained foam agent and water volume is used to calculate and check the proportioning rate. DoseTech concludes, “We offer installation design support, turnkey skids systems, commissioning and user training of the sophisticated FireDos proportioners to contribute to the effectiveness of stationary and mobile fire extinguishing systems through powerful technology.” Contact Mike Feldon Owner DoseTech Tel: 086 111 1544 Email: [email protected] Website: www.dosetech.co.za |
