Closing date for Toughest Firefighter Alive 2022 entries: Friday, 2 September 2022
The seventh edition of South Africa’s Toughest Firefighter Alive Competition (TFA-SA) will be held at the De Bakke arena in Mossel Bay on 16 and 17 September 2022 after a COVID-19 induced absence of two years. The event will be hosted by Mossel Bay Fire Rescue Service with logistical support being provided by the Garden Route District Disaster Risk Management Centre. The mayor of Mossel Bay, Dirk Kotze, has pledged his full support for the TFA event, which will also be the opening event of the Mossel Bay Sports Festival. The TFA-SA seeks to engage the public, build up relationships and educate the vulnerable members of our communities about the hazards of fire, therefore this year the competition will bring a new element to the competition, by adding in a Mini TFA circuit for children, as well as fire safety and awareness displays. Closing date for registration is Friday, 2 September 2022. Individuals/teams are encouraged to register even if they are awaiting the payment of their fees by their municipalities, so that the programme can be finalised.
TFA-SA has up to date attracted entries of almost 120 fire fighter entries from 20 different regions and entities, with this year’s entries including a number of new entries and teams as well as the return of the return of many competitors who have done the event previously. The teams often are driven by strong leaders, throughout the various ranks, who are encouraging and driving their teams forward. Individually, the TFA attracts a very special type of person: someone who enjoys challenges, strong-willed, goal driven individuals willing to take risks and get out of their comfort zone to take on a challenge, when easier options exist. The TFA is not only physically challenging but mentally challenging where competitors often have to overcome many challenges including their fear of ‘failing’. Each competitor will have their own pressure, point to prove and unique reason for entering and competing in the event. But in the TFA there is no failing, only learning experiences, with the act of entering and participating a statement of success. Nothing worthwhile achieving will be easy.
